Oli Simpson, Physiotherapist MSc

Oli’s started his career working with athletes after completing his BSc Sport and Exercise science at the University of Chester, completing his thesis on running biomechanics and recovery.

Following this he worked with international triathletes, cross-country runners and cyclists providing sport science support. In addition to this he also worked with a Super league Rugby league team providing their sport science testing.

"All movements of the body are skills that can be improved, running is a complex movement of the whole body and therefore should be practiced to achieve individual goals."

Oli then returned to University to complete an MSc in Physiotherapy at Manchester Metropolitan University and started his Physiotherapy career in the NHS. In addition to his NHS work and now private practice setting he has continued to work in professional Football academies in Manchester treating and rehabilitating young footballers.

Due to his desire for knowledge and evidence based practice Oli has returned to University and currently studying for a second MSc degree in Advanced Physiotherapy Practice.

“Man Vs Mountain is a true event to challenge yourself. 10k run is nothing comparing with this one. You start off at sea level and run to the top of Snowdon in Wales (9 miles to the top). Once reached the top you then run back down the mountain and tackle an area of natural obstacles and challenges such as lake jumps and abseiling ascents for another 20 miles.“

The hike is 56 mile circular course, visiting checkpoints in the correct order in the gorgeous Peak District. The hike has to be completed within 24 hours starting. You will definitely need some strong walking boots, compass, whistle and a torch as the walk carries on through the night.

5kilometers competitive races

I like to challenge myself and compete in all different types of races and hikes. However, nothing will ever beat a good old 5K and 10K run. I regularly join these long distance road running competitions and try to improve my results every time.

Thanks for the bike fit and running assessment, I had no idea that I had been doing everything wrong so long. Since making the changes you suggested I am getting better times, feel 100 times better and haven’t had an injury yet."
