Natalie Seymour, Coach

Natalie has always had two big interests in her life, Sport and people. Natalie studied a BSc in Psychology at the University of Kent and then went on to study an MSc in Health Psychology at London Metropolitan University and a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at Royal Holloway University. Natalie completed her doctoral thesis on Adolescent well-being and its association with planning towards goals and thinking about the future.

Natalie has a range of high level sports experience. She was part of the Great Britain Women’s Hockey squad between 2009 and 2012 and won Commonwealth, European and World Bronze Medals. Natalie has since taken up triathlon and is now competing as a professional in Ironman 70.3 distance races.

"Successful performance is about making improvements and striving to be better everyday."

Natalie’s combination of elite level performance and application of psychological models and approaches, in a variety of contexts (health teams, in the community, young athletes) has developed a keen interest in working with sports people to improve performance and well-being.

Key Facts

2010 World cup bronze medal

We were the first British female hockey team to win a World medal. We had started training full time in 2009, having been ranked 11th in the World and the tournaement was testament to the difference a centralised programme had made to the quality of our fitness, teamwork and hockey.

Castle Howard Gauntlet half Iron race is an obvious progression from Olympic-distance triathlon and a brilliant start for the extreme triathlon. It involved 1.9km lake swim, a 90km bike and a 21km off-road run.

As a first year professional I had slowly developed over the 2016 season. The performances in Dublin and Weymouth were a result of the decision to work part time (instead of full time) in May 2016. Whilst it felt like a risk at the time, I was delighted with the improvement it made to my performance and I am now even more committed to competing against the Worlds best in 2017.
