Functional Movement Assessment (FMA) By Roberta Cardoso

What is the Functional Movement Assessment (FMA)?

The FMA is series of specially selected movements that we, as Physiotherapists, can analyse to give information on how efficiently you move. To the trained eye, these movements can highlight abnormalities and asymmetries that are often associated with developing a wide range of injuries. The FMA has been developed through the experience of our physiotherapists working with elite level athletes during pre-season testing.

Why is this necessary? And how is it appropriate to running?

An FMA is important because running is an athletic movement that includes the upper limbs and spine, as well as the lower limbs, which are required to work together in order for us to move as efficiently as possible. The FMA can show us whether each joint is able to move harmoniously with the body to allow effective, injury-free athletic output, regardless of the sport we are involved in.

How do I book in for an assessment?

To book in and see one of our specialist physiotherapists at Physio.co.uk for a functional movement and biomechanical running assessment, please call us on 0330 088 7800 today.
